Give greenery a spatial purpose
Biophilic design creates connections with nature within the built environment. Plants are one part of that relationship, alongside natural materials, light and views. A living wall can introduce depth, irregularity and movement into a room built from straight lines.
Work with the architecture
Consider the relationship between greenery and the architecture. Does planting frame a view, soften a transition or define a gathering area? Pair foliage with the grain of wood or the texture of stone. Repeating a material from the room can help the installation feel integrated.
Plan the practical details
The visual idea is only the beginning. Light, water, drainage, access and ongoing plant care need to be considered early. The strongest installation brings its practical needs and its spatial purpose together.
